Illuminate Bermondsey Lantern Procession 2019
You are cordially invited to join us at the inaugural Illuminate Rotherhithe & Bermondsey lantern processions on Friday 29th November.
Both processions arrive at St James’s church, Bermondsey at about 5.15 pm where there will be soup provided by the church and pizza from Perfeta Pizza Albion Street and hot chocolate from Mr Cappuccino Jamaica Rd. There will be the Samba Band from St Michaels’ College accompanying the Rotherhithe parade, and church bells will be rung by the Docklands Ringers at St Mary’s and St James’s churches. The lanterns will have been hand-made by their proud owners.
Bermondsey parade
Bermondsey’s parade will depart from The Blue (where there will be hot chocolate) at about 4.30 pm, and Rotherhithe’s parade will depart at about 4.30 pm from St Mary’s church gardens (opposite St Mary’s church, Rotherhithe
Please bring your lanterns! The Illuminate team will be giving away lights and will have strings and sticks for hanging willow lanterns. Please also bring acoustic musical instrument to play while we march (Eg. rattles, whistles, bells, horns ( no electric amplification please)
If you want to come direct from school, there will be children’s market in the The Blue from 12noon with slime making. Hot chocolate and a last-minute lantern making workshop will also be available from 3.30pm
The procession will depart once it gets dark (by 5pm) along Southwark Park Road then turn on to Drummond Road. The route is approximately 30 minutes.
The route finish at St. James Church where will we meet the Illuminate rotherhithe Procession and there will be a chance to view all the wonderful lanterns. There will be hot food and rink given away at the church.

The parade start point will be at Market Place, Bermondsey, London SE16 3UQ
Buses 1, 381 and P12 have stops nearby. Bermondsey underground station is only 10 minutes walks
About Illuminate Festival
Illuminate Bermondsey is part of the Illuminate Rotherhithe, a free annual Autumn festival for and with local people inspired by the histories of the Thame, the docks, migration and the sailing of the Mayflower.
