Blue Colouring Competition

Artist Sarah Sparkes invited the residents of Bermondsey to colour in pictures of local landmarks and market traders.

The drawings were made by Sarah and featured the Fruit and Vegetable Stall, The Blue Anchor Pub, Russell The Fishmonger and The Biscuit Factory. Local children and adults spent a sunny Saturday afternoon colouring on the drawings in the Blue Market Square and some really amazing work was produced. As a theme, the participants were encourage to use the colour blue in inventive and unusual way, and as you can see they really went to town! At the end of the afternoon, Fishmonger Russell Dyden, who posed for one of the pictures, awarded blue coloured prizes for the best entrants. Sarah had to go and buy extra prizes as the work was so great.  Take a look at the gallery below.

Sarah only had enough time to draw a few of the great business and landmarks around Bermondsey and hopes to return and draw more in the future.

The event was supported by Blue Bermondsey Business Improvement District as part of a series of live events running through the summer. You will find art projects and live performance on Saturday afternoons through the summer in and around Bermondsey Market Square and High Street. Each week is different and previous events have included a treasure hunt, hula-hooping, hook-a-duck games, a clown show and a royal tea party. Why not come down and see what’s going on?
